Quote: | The Enuma Elish is a Babylonian or Mesopotamian myth of creation recounting the struggle between cosmic order and chaos... |
Here is a link that gives some background and some information - as well as the text (at least one version of the text) - for the Enuma Elish. I'm sure you can google the term and find others...but here's a start:

what parallels are there between this and the Genesis 1 creation story?
what differences are there?
any thoughts? |

At first I was surprised at how dissimilar they are. I was expecting something more along the lines of the similarities between the biblical flood story and the flood story in the Epic of Gilgamesh.
The most striking similarity that I see is the way in which things are created out of a watery void. The creation of humans is also comes after other things in both accounts.
The most obvious difference is the polytheism in the Enuma Elish and the monotheism in the Genesis account, although there are some places where God in the Genesis story refers to himself in the plural (let us make man in our image). The Genesis story is stunningly peaceful in contrast to the violent Babylonian story. |
