The November-December 2004 issue of For Faith & Family magazine had an intersting poll in it. It didn't give the source, so who knows what the basis is.
When asked the following question: "Do blacks have as good a chance as white people in your community to get any kind of job for which they are qualified?"
The % who answered "Have as good a chance" was
Non Hispanic whites 77%
Blacks 41%
The survey states, "Blacks' views on this matter have become slightly more pessimistic in recent years, while whites' views of blacks' job opportunities generally have become more positive."
Aside from what I would call dated racial terminology at best, this is a telling commentary. |

Privilidged groups are often blind to their own privledge. I also think the wording "in your community" is interesting. Since white and black people are often segregated into different communities, many white people may be judging based on the few successful black people that they see in their own communities. They are not driving over to the ghetto to see the rest of the story. |
