Okay, some of us are getting our posts edited for language, which is bringing up an interesting question, that being:
Are there such things as bad words? |

There's bad usage of words, so one could say that words become bad. Kind of hard to vote correctly in this poll.
I wouldn't say that the words that are being edited (although i completely understand why they would be) are "bad words" if used in a correct context. |

i guess if society deems them as inappropriate, then therein lies your answer. communication is all about perception and reception and successful transmission of ideas from one individual to another.
do i agree with these words being "bad"? not really. i mean, if i'm watching the osbournes and hear it ever 2.7 seconds, then i'd lean more towards yes. but if i'm listening to pedro the lion and happen to hear him drop the f-bomb because it is the only thing that captures the full ntegrity of his ideas, then no. i don't think that's bad.
my feelings are that it's purely contextual. but i'm going to cast my vote for "no," because i don't think there are words that are wrong to use, 100% of the time. |

i'm not sure that i can cast a 'yes' or 'no' in this poll. however, i do feel that there are some words that i choose not to use because they are negative words to me. there are certain words that don't sit well with me because i think we use these words rather frequently in such a negative context. then it kind of becomes a habit and it influences your thinking. i don't prefer to engage in negative habits if i can help it. also, i sometimes feel that 'bad' words are a lazy way out for the expression of feelings. |
